Young man invites his 89-year-old neighbour to move in with him so that he can care for her

When we require immediate assistance, we contact our neighbours, whether it’s to feed the fish and water the plants while we’re away or to lend a hand with a do-it-yourself project. Sometimes, neighbours go above and beyond when least expected.

Norma Cook, age 89, has leukemia and was hospitalized for two months due to pneumonia and breathing issues. Chris Salavatore, her 31-year-old neighbour, is a Hollywood actor. When Chris learned that Norma requires assistance, he offered her his home immediately.

“She couldn’t be happier that I asked,” he said. “I was over there visiting most days anyway.” “The only other option was for her to go into a facility,” he continued. “I just couldn’t do that to someone who is like my own grandmother.”

Both parties express satisfaction with the arrangement and have developed a routine. Cook, who is childless and has no close relatives in California, told TODAY, “He cooks for me.” “If he can’t make it as an actor, he can make it as a chef,” she joked.
