Woman honours promise from her youth and asks great-grandmother to be her maid of honour

Grandparents hold a special place in the hearts of many, offering valuable guidance and love through their unique perspectives shaped by their experiences and cultural backgrounds. They can have a lasting impact on their grandchildren’s lives, and their influence can be felt for generations to come.

Erin Radmann wanted to honor her great-grandmother by inviting her to be the maid of honor at her wedding. A video shared on Reddit by u/mindyour shows the grandmother reading the letter asking her to take on the special role. “Grandma Rose, will you be my Maid of Honor?” She asks her granddaughter, “You never gave up on me.” Radmann asks her again, “Will you be my Maid of Honor, please?” The grandma continues, “Okay, I will have to learn to walk.”

After accepting the invitation to be the maid of honor, Radmann and her great-grandmother share a heartwarming embrace, and Radmann presents her with a necklace to wear on the wedding day. This touching video quickly gained popularity on the internet, receiving over 13.6k upvotes on Reddit, as people celebrated the beautiful moment between them.

Regrettably, Erin Radmann’s great-grandmother couldn’t live to see her granddaughter’s wedding day as she passed away in 2021. In an Instagram post shared on October 13, 2021, Radmann announced the sad news by penning,

“Yesterday we lost my sweet Great Grandma Rose. It’s been a tough day, reminiscing with family about holidays that she will not be here for. When I was 13, I promised my grandma she would be my maid of honor at my wedding.” She added, “This summer I was able to ask her to be my Maid of honor at my wedding, and she happily said Yes!

Here are a few pictures and a video. “She also turned 102 years old last Sunday and we celebrated her with lots of love.”

Radmann elaborated on the tale of her Great-Grandmother Rose in a TikTok video. She claims she never believed her grandmother could die and was certain she would be at her wedding. She first asked her to be her maid of honour when she was 13 years old, and then again when she became engaged to her now-husband.

“She thought maybe I forgot about her or I asked somebody else,”  Radmann explains in the video. She even asked people if they have a way to honour the deceased at a wedding and received numerous responses.

On her grandmother’s first death anniversary and after her wedding, she posted a tribute to her on Instagram.

She penned,  “Not a day goes by where I don’t think about you and miss you terribly. Today, I will not cry or be sad. Instead, I’ll celebrate you and all of our incredible memories together. I love you so incredibly much, thank you for being my Maid of Honor, watching from heaven.”

Grandma Rose’s story has gone viral on a number of social media platforms, with people praising Radmann for showing her such respect and affection.
