There are two highly anticipated events after getting engaged: the bachelor/bachelorette party and the grand wedding day. Typically, bachelor parties involve drinking, fun, and activities that are best kept away from grandma’s ears. However, Mitchell Craddock’s bachelor party took an unexpected turn, leading to a heartwarming story he couldn’t wait to share with the world.
Mitchell and his group of seven friends embarked on a weekend getaway to a rented cabin in the Tennessee woods, leaving their hometown of Vicksburg, Michigan, behind. Following the customary rules of a stag party, no females were initially allowed inside the cabin. But fate had other plans when an uninvited guest arrived at their doorstep.
A stray mama dog had followed the irresistible aroma of sizzling bacon emanating from the cabin and decided to investigate the source of the mouthwatering scent. Trevor Jennings, one of the revelers, recounted the beginning of their unexpected encounter, stating, “It all started while we were cooking bacon our first morning on the trip with the door to the cabin open.”
Despite being a female, the men made an exception for the hungry and famished dog, inviting her to join their weekend festivities. However, upon closer inspection, they realized the poor dog was in a pitiful condition. Jennings shared, “We went outside to pet her and that’s when we noticed she was in rough shape. You could see her ribs, and she was eating any scrap of food we gave her.”
Determined to help their newfound guest, the men decided to provide her with a nourishing meal, which revealed her intense hunger and thirst. As they observed the mama dog’s belly, it became apparent that she had recently given birth to puppies. All her energy had been devoted to keeping them alive, raising the question of their whereabouts.
Speculating that the puppies must have been born some time ago, Jennings mentioned, “It was obvious she had some pups at some point, but she was not producing milk when she found us, so we thought the puppies were bigger.” However, their assumptions were about to be shattered. The mama dog repeatedly disappeared into a specific area of the woods, igniting the men’s curiosity and prompting them to investigate.

To their astonishment, they stumbled upon a sheltered corner where a puppy’s head emerged from a makeshift den. And there were seven of them, tiny and seemingly newborn!

With the sight of seven hungry bellies, it was evident why the mama dog had been in such dire need of sustenance. Without hesitation, the men decided to bring all the puppies back to the safety of the cabin, understanding the dangers that awaited them in the wilderness.

After giving the puppies a bath, the group had to decide on their next course of action. With eight men and eight dogs, it made perfect sense for each of them to adopt a puppy, forging a bond that would extend beyond their memorable bachelor party.
Jennings explained, “We all live within about a 5-mile radius of each other and hang out most weekends. We typically bring the dogs along with us, so they still see each other.”

The mother dog, now named Annie, along with one of her puppies, named Bear, found their forever home with Craddock’s grandparents.
The remaining pups, Knox, Gunner, Brimmie, Finn, Rosie, and Daisy, joined the other men, creating a loving and joyous environment where they could grow and thrive.
They may have embarked on their bachelor party expecting a different outcome, but they left with a precious gift—an adorable puppy to cherish.
