Jia’s mother, Ashley Sarnicola, told BuzzFeed News that her daughter and her best friend had known each other since they were three years old and had become inseparable ever since. The girls had met at the school in Miami where they both attended and had an instant connection with one another.
They were four years old when the media first caught up with these wonderful souls, and they were clearly the best of friends. However, as they’ve grown older, their connection has grown stronger, and now they say they’re twins.
Ashley shared: “They will tell you that they are twins and they have a long list of reasons why to back it up.”
Jia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland believe they are twins.

An older kid told them they couldn’t be twins because they don’t have the same skin color…Jia broke down and said, “You don’t know what you are talking about… we are twins because we share the same soul.”

According to what the girls have said, their birthdays are almost the same day. They also emphasize their physical similarities, with Jia stating that they are the same height and that both of them insist on wearing outfits that resemble each other.
The birthday celebrations for the two girls on the days of June 3rd and June 5th have been combined to have joint parties over the years.
These lovely pair share similar aspects of their personalities as well.
Ashley said: “[They have] the same vibrant energy, intelligence, heart to take care of others, and both [are] extremely vocal about their needs.”
“We have always taught the girls that being different is cool, and to make friends with new people every day. In their class at school, there are six different languages between the 15 kids.”
In 2017, Jia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland said they are not just best friends but twins. They were just 4-years-old at the time of this story by @SteveHartmanCBS. But their message could teach us “grown ups” a lot today. https://t.co/dz0oKtUJ8m

She stated that Jia had told her: “she wishes she had chocolate-color skin like Zuri because she likes chocolate better than vanilla.”
The girls’ mothers, who have also developed strong friendships with one another, have expressed their concern that society will take control and dictate how they feel about one another.
Sadly, this occurred when they were at a birthday celebration and an older child informed them they couldn’t be twins since they didn’t share the same skin tone.
Jia was brought to tears by the callous remark, yet despite her emotions, she was able to come up with this amazing response.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about. We’re twins because we share the same soul,’” she said.

Victoria Williams, who is 23 years old and is Zuri’s sister, was so inspired by her response that she posted it on Twitter and it went viral. It was the ideal way to be brought back to focus on what is truly significant in life.
Valencia, Zuri’s mother, has expressed the wish that nothing would ever come between the two girls.
“We have a lot to learn and we can learn from children.”
