Dottie Fideli, a woman who had always dreamt of her perfect wedding day, has taken matters into her own hands at the age of 77. Instead of waiting for a partner, she decided to marry herself as the ultimate act of self-love, right in her Ohio retirement home.
Reflecting on her lifelong desire, Dottie expressed her joy in finally having the opportunity to fulfill her wedding dreams. She shared, “This is something I’ve always wanted. I wanted to get married and have a happy life, but things didn’t work out that way. Now I have a second chance to do something that will make me happy.”
Dottie’s previous marriage, which took place back in 1965, was far from what she had envisioned. After a simple courthouse ceremony, her ex-husband went to work while she returned home alone.
Recalling the ill-fated event, Dottie revealed that she wore a black dress, which seemed to set the tone for a doomed union. However, her desire for a grand wedding never wavered, even though she believed it was too late for her.
Fortunately, her daughter, Donna Pennington, was determined to make her mother’s dreams a reality. Together, they transformed the community room of O’Bannon Terrace Retirement Home in Goshen, Ohio, into a wedding venue adorned with balloons.

Donna personally prepared all the food for the celebration. Family, friends, and loved ones gathered to witness Dottie in her dream white dress, complete with sheer long sleeves and a silver belt. A white veil with an embellished headband adorned her hair.
Leading up to the momentous day, Dottie admitted feeling nervous, like any bride would. However, as the sun set on her dream wedding, she couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of happiness. Marrying herself became a powerful symbol of self-love for Dottie, who held a white lily in her hand while reciting her vows.
