Teen is homeless after leaving foster care until he meets sister and her new family, which changes his life

The US foster system is a reality for many children who dream of finding a loving family to call their own one day. Unfortunately, for a significant number of kids, this dream never comes to fruition. It has been estimated that every year, around 20,000 children age out of the foster system, meaning they are left alone to build a life from scratch. It’s hard to imagine how difficult it is for a child to not have a forever family, but what would make things even worse is if there were failed adoption attempts.

Seth Miller was faced with this reality a few years back when he became an adult. He had spent about a decade in unhappy foster homes, and after a failed adoption attempt, he was left with no one to turn to when he became of age.

At 18 years old, Seth was forced to live in his car and accept that he was homeless. Life was hard for the teen, and he shared during an interview with USA TODAY, “Empty, alone, nowhere to kind of fit in […] just an everyday kind of life, nothing really extraordinary to look forward to.” All he wished for was a proper family to call his own.

Miraculously, a series of events started happening that would change Seth’s life forever. When his court-appointed special advocate talked Robert and Ara Hunt into meeting up with the boy, things started changing for Seth. The Hunt family had already adopted Seth’s biological sister, Shyann Hunt, and at first, they were hesitant to meet Seth. However, they decided that fear should not hold them back and made the bold move to meet him. “When we let go of the fears, we found forever,” Ara Hunt said.

The couple arranged things so that Shyann would meet her brother who they never knew existed, and the reunion was emotional- to say the least. From then on, things took their course, just like it was meant to happen. Soon after the reunion, the Hunts, who already had a large family including two daughters and a son still living at home at the time, invited Seth to move in with them.

Although the transition period was challenging, they soon found their communication codes and living all together became something natural for them.

One year later, the Hunts officially adopted Seth, and they all became a family under the law. “From the first time I saw the interview, I knew he was a part of our family,” Robert Hunt told the judge. “We’re just doing this to make it legal. He’s our son.”

To celebrate his new life, Seth decided to change his name. He is now Logan Hunt, honoring the name of the family that gave him the most precious gift of all: somewhere to belong. “It feels awesome,” Logan said. “Like I’m at peace.”
