Abi recently unveiled a game-changing tip related to Apple’s Notes app in an Instagram video caption. He emphasized that Notes could potentially be the top choice for free note-taking if you happen to own an iPhone or a Mac, and ideally, both.
The app boasts a plethora of features that other note-taking apps often require payment for. So, if you haven’t given it a try yet, it’s worth considering.
The tech expert then hinted at the top-secret hack that you might be unaware of. Abi elucidated that any iPhone user has the ability to utilize the Notes app, typically reserved for tasks like shopping lists or late-night musings, to effortlessly scan documents and save them as PDFs directly onto their phone.
He proceeded to offer a step-by-step demonstration, ensuring a foolproof guide to share the news about this “most powerful” feature.
To conduct document scans, Abi’s guidance is straightforward:
- Open the Notes app and either select an existing note or create a new one.
- On the bottom left-hand side of the screen, tap the Camera icon, then choose ‘Scan Documents’ from the dropdown menu.
- Your screen will switch to the Camera with an instruction to “Position the document in view.”
- Once satisfied with the placement, your document will automatically scan if your device is set to Auto mode. If not, you can activate it at the top right-hand side of the screen.
- If your phone is in Manual mode, simply tap the Shutter button.
- Adjust the scan to fit the page by dragging the corners as needed, then tap ‘Keep Scan.’
- Now, you can either ‘Save’ the scanned document or, if you’re feeling creative, continue to add more scans.

Abi also shared several other ingenious hacks, including the ability to seamlessly copy and paste text from a physical document into your Notes app, effortlessly share and sync notes with friends and family, organize your notes into convenient folders, and even create password-protected notes.
