Irish Grinstead, a member of the girl group 702, known for hit songs like “Where My Girls At,” has died, her sister announced Saturday. She was 43.
Grinstead’s sister and fellow group member, Lemisha Grinstead, announced the news
in an Instagram post.
“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening,” she wrote. “She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within. Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life! We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family.”
Grinstead was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She and her twin sister, Orish, began singing together at a young age. In 1996, they joined forces with Kameelah Williams to form 702.
702 quickly rose to fame with their debut album, “702.” The album spawned the hit singles “Steelo” and “Get It Together.” The group’s second album, “No Doubt,” was even more successful, featuring the hit singles “Where My Girls At?” and “All I Do.”
702 continued to release music throughout the early 2000s, but they eventually went on hiatus in 2006. The group reunited in 2015 and released their fourth album, “Lemonade,” in 2017.
In addition to her work with 702, Grinstead also released a solo album, “Irish,” in 2003. She also appeared in the films “Not Another Teen Movie” and “Scary Movie 3.”
