Simone Biles overcame childhood hardships and defends herself against critics of simple wedding attire

Simone Biles, the renowned American gymnast, tied the knot with NFL star Jonathan Owens in an intimate ceremony officiated by a judge. The joyful couple shared their wedding photos on social media, delighting their admirers.

Biles boasts an impressive collection of seven Olympic medals, establishing her as a prominent figure in the world of gymnastics. Meanwhile, Owens, who humbly describes himself as “a kid from St. Louis” on his Instagram profile, has built an exceptional career.

Having attended Christian Brothers College High School, Owens later transferred to Missouri Western State University to pursue a football career.

During his senior year, he received the prestigious title of Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Following graduation, Owens entered the 2018 NFL Draft, but ultimately became a free agent.

Following the draft, Owens signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make his rookie debut due to a knee injury sustained during preseason practice.

Currently, Owens serves as a safety for the Houston Texans. Throughout his NFL journey, Biles has been his unwavering supporter, cheering him on during his games with unyielding enthusiasm.

In 2020, Biles and Owens connected through a dating app, with Biles taking the initiative to make the first move. As the pandemic unfolded, they had the opportunity to truly get to know each other, strengthening their connection.

The couple got engaged in February 2022, and Biles expressed that accepting Owens’ marriage proposal was the easiest “yes” she had ever given. It took nearly a year of planning for them to have their intimate wedding.

The decision of having a low-key ceremony with only a judge present surprised many. The couple explained that while they had plans for a larger destination wedding, they wanted to have a legal marriage in the United States first.

Overflowing with joy from their wedding, the newlyweds eagerly shared exclusive photos of their special day with their friends on social media. The images captured their excitement and showcased the customary wedding poses.

Biles opted for an elegant yet understated look for their courthouse ceremony. She gracefully wore a white tiered midi dress, which she purchased for $120, along with heels worth $35 that she acquired on sale.

Since Biles shared about her bridal gown, the items have reportedly been selling rapidly. Fans have been captivated by her simple yet exquisite style, expressing admiration and a desire to obtain a similar piece for themselves.

The bride mentioned that she had bought all the necessary items for her wedding a week prior, which included her dress, shoes, wedding rings, and even her bouquet. She admitted that she hadn’t put as much effort into planning for the civil wedding as she had for their destination wedding.

Following their heartfelt vows, the lovely couple indulged in a simple yet delightful photoshoot across various locations. They gracefully posed for post-wedding pictures inside an elegant elevator and on the rooftop of a building.

The Olympian faced criticism online not only for her basic attire but also for her hair. Deleted tweets claimed her hair looked “unkempt” and suggested she should have styled her edges and worn a lace front.

These remarks sparked a heated debate between those who criticized her and those who came to her defense. Eventually, Biles directly addressed the individuals who had bullied her regarding her wedding haircut.

In response to a supportive admirer who highlighted the many aspects of Biles’ life worthy of praise, she commented, “I think they also forget I live in HOUSTON TEXAS & I sweat those out!! soon as we stepped outside for pics. But they can keep complaining idc idc idc.”

Biles shared her statement as a reply, acknowledging the compassionate fan’s perspective. Many others joined in agreement with the kind supporter, urging Biles not to pay attention to the trolls and instead focus on the positive aspects of her life.

While Biles’ gown cost only $120, she had meticulously planned her wedding for months. The renowned Israeli designer, Galia Lahav, crafted two outfits for her special day. And if that wasn’t extravagant enough, the gymnast revealed that she would be wearing a total of four outfits for her destination wedding.

Biles faced immense pressure while growing up as one of the nation’s top gymnasts, and her journey hasn’t been an easy one. Born on March 14, 1997, in Ohio, she had to cope with the challenges of having a mother who struggled with drug addiction and a father who left them during her childhood.

At the age of six, Biles and her sister Adria made the move to Texas after their grandparents, Nellie and Ron Biles, decided to adopt them. Biles lovingly refers to Nellie and Ron as her “Mom and Dad.”

Since the beginning of her competitive journey, Biles has consistently stood out as a remarkable gymnast. While she may have felt like an ordinary youngster simply engaging in a sport she loved, her exceptional talent and expertise were evident to everyone around her.

In 2016, Biles left an indelible mark on the global stage by securing four gold medals at the Rio Olympics. Additionally, she accomplished a bronze medal in the balance beam event.

Following the Olympics, Russian hackers alleged that Biles had used prescription medication prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. In response, she promptly defended herself, explaining that she had been prescribed the medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) since childhood.

Two years later, Biles courageously revealed that she was one of the survivors who had been victimized by USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. Nassar has been accused by over 330 women and girls of sexual abuse.

Biles struggled to admit Nassar’s abuse to her mother. However, during a car ride, she had a breakdown and tearfully confessed to Nellie over the phone. Embracing her truth, Biles publicly shared her experience with Nassar on social media. This led to a wave of support and a collective effort to seek justice for herself and other gymnasts affected by Nassar’s actions.

In an interview, Biles held USA Gymnastics accountable for the abuse inflicted by Nassar on numerous young women, criticizing their failure to protect them. The stress she experienced took a toll on her mental health, leading to her decision to retire from gymnastics, despite her impressive achievements.

Biles aimed to make history by winning five gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics but faced setbacks, including unintentional mistakes on the first day of competition. Nevertheless, she managed to advance to the finals.

Biles initially planned to retire after the Tokyo Olympics, but her coaches, Cecile and Lauren Landi, encouraged her to consider competing at the 2024 Paris Games. Regardless of her future professional decisions, Biles has achieved incredible success in her career.

At the age of 26, she has amassed 7 Olympic medals and 25 World Championship medals. Biles’ achievements surpass those of Larisa Latynina from the Soviet Union, as she has more total gold medals. She also shares the title of most successful American gymnast at the Olympics with Shannon Miller, although Biles has four gold medals compared to Miller’s two.

After the Tokyo Olympics, Biles found herself in tears as she confronted the challenges she had faced in the gym. She openly acknowledged the mental barriers she had encountered, which had left her feeling terrified.

The mental obstacles Biles faced were evident during her performance at the Tokyo Olympics, as she struggled to execute what she had been practicing. Biles revealed her hesitation to perform her routine, fearing the potential harm caused by her ongoing mental challenges.

Throughout her journey, Biles expressed gratitude towards her family and her now-husband for their support in navigating the recent difficulties she has encountered. With their assistance, she finds the strength to push herself and be the best she can be, a quality noticed by her coaches.

Despite taking a break from competition after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics to prioritize her mental health, Biles has not retired. As she embraces a new chapter in her life as a newlywed, fans will have to wait a bit longer to learn about her future plans and next steps.
