Rocky Lockridge, a boxer and “Best Cry Ever” meme creator, passed away at the age of 60

Rocky Lockridge, a former champion in the super-featherweight boxing category, has passed away at the age of 60.

Lockridge, a former boxer, had an impressive record of 210-8 as an amateur. He also won the WBA junior lightweight title by knocking out the previously undefeated Roger Mayweather in the first round.

Lockridge gained online notoriety for his appearance on the A&E reality show Intervention, where he tearfully opened up about his struggles with drug addiction, leading to the creation of the “Best Cry Ever” meme.

In 2010, Lockridge appeared on the A&E reality show Intervention, which showcased his family’s efforts to help him overcome his struggle with a cocaine addiction that had left him homeless.

“He had a good heart, and he brought himself back up from the bottom,” former sparring partner Perry Dawes told

Dawes has stated that Lockridge’s appearance on Intervention was facilitated in part by the Retired Boxers Foundation. Following the intervention by his family, Lockridge made the decision to get clean and sober.

He made up his mind that he was going to conquer his addictions,” said Jacquie Richardson of the Retired Boxers Foundation. “He got his own apartment. He carried on a life drug-free.”

After experiencing several strokes and pneumonia, Rocky Lockridge was taken off life support a week ago and passed away on 2019.

News of Lockridge’s death began trending on Reddit, earning over 60,000 upvotes and making it to the front page.
