The Indian Railways staff who rescued a six-year-old from the tracks in Maharashtra said he briefly considered his own safety before rushing towards the boy to save his life. The incident took place at the Vangani railway station near Mumbai, where the boy fell onto the tracks after slipping from his mother’s grasp while walking close to the platform’s edge.

CCTV footage captured Mayur Shelke running towards the boy on the railway tracks with a train rapidly approaching. The footage shows Shelke lifting the boy to safety onto the platform just in time before pulling himself up as the train passes by. According to news agency ANI, Shelke said, “I ran towards the child but also thought that I might be in danger too. Still, I thought I should save him.” He also added that the woman with the child was visually impaired and could not help.

Shelke’s brave action earned him praise from both the Central Railway staff and the boy’s mother, who expressed her gratitude towards him. “The woman was very emotional and thanked me a lot,” Shelke told ANI.
