Prom date sews dream gown from scratch for high schooler who couldn’t afford it

Prom night is often portrayed as a memorable occasion filled with joy and celebration, but it can also be a pricey affair.

Addi Rust had no idea of the expenses involved when she agreed to attend the prom with her closest friend Parker Smith.

Luckily, her resourceful companion took matters into their own hands and crafted a one-of-a-kind dress tailored to her preferences.

Upon realizing the exorbitant price of prom dresses, Parker was inspired to take matters into his own hands and design a distinctive outfit for his companion.

Their mutual realization of the expense of prom attire drove Parker’s decision to create something special for the occasion.

According to a report by USA Today, attending prom carries an average price tag of $600.

Such a sum can be quite steep, and if you’re not keen on shelling out that much cash, crafting your own dress at home can be a fantastic alternative.

At first, Addi made the suggestion of Parker creating her dress in jest.

Despite having no prior experience in sewing, Parker decided to take on the task after giving it some careful consideration.

Prior to crafting this dress, he had no familiarity with sewing.

Parker was resolute in his determination to fashion his date’s ideal dress.

Without any prior sewing knowledge, he began by sketching a design based on his date’s preferences, then sought out his grandmother for guidance and sewing lessons.

He dedicated months to working on the dress and persisted in adding finishing touches until the evening prior to prom.

He tells Fox59:

“I’m such a perfectionist that I was up adding more stones to the dress even the night before prom.”

Following the impressive display of his dressmaking skills, he received an influx of requests for dresses.

It’s hardly unexpected – she appeared to be a genuine fairytale princess!

According to Addi, tears welled up in her eyes when Parker revealed the finished product to her.

The dress held a significant value for her, and it was undoubtedly her ideal gown.

However, the fulfillment of dreams did not end there.

As soon as his story made headlines, other clients began to seek his services.

In no time, nearby theater companies began to approach him for costume designing of their plays, and Parker was delighted to accept the opportunity.

In a particular production, he crafted Cinderella’s costume, which needed to transform from a humble dress into a magnificent ball gown.

Even with all his accomplishments, Parker is still taken aback by the warm response he has received.

He is astounded that something so extraordinary could happen to him.

Moreover, this opportunity to create holds personal significance for him. He stated in an interview with FOX59:

“Extremely sentimental to me. Especially when you see everything all together, and there’s just no other feeling. It’s just crazy to think that something like that can come from, like, a simple kid…It only enriched the kid I know myself to be already.”

This adolescent is now considering a profession in the field of design.

Presently, Parker is pursuing costume design and musical theater in college with the new objective of designing costumes for Broadway.

Who knows whether he would have discovered his passion if he had not decided to craft a dress for his date so affectionately?
