“Petey is so loved and is opening up and showing us his beautiful personality. I am so happy to have him,” shared a member of his new family.
Animal shelters are teeming with good-natured animals awaiting adoption. Sadly, tiny puppies often take precedence over older and larger animals. Despite the misconception that they are very fearful or aggressive, these massive lugs are frequently sweethearts who will always love you. Petey the dog is a fantastic example of this. After spending nearly a year in a shelter, he finally found his forever home. After moving in, his new family posted a photo of Petey sleeping with a smile on his face to further motivate him.
Petey, a happy dog with an eyepatch-like spot, had run out of time in a small, overcrowded shelter and had no potential adopters lined up. According to My Modern Met, the staff then contacted the SPCA of Wake County to assist in finding him a permanent home.
Despite these changes, Petey’s enthusiasm for the transfer never diminished. “As soon as he got here, he was yanking on the leash trying to get through the door. He bounded into the building,” recalls Samantha Ranlet, spokesperson for the SPCA of Wake County. “He was super friendly from day one and very playful. We couldn’t believe that nobody wanted him.” The SPCA employees posted a photo of him along with his adoption status on social media. Petey’s adopters fell in love with his adorable face and could not wait to meet him after only a few weeks. Since then, he has moved in with his family, which includes a second dog.
“Petey is settling in perfectly in his new home,” a member of his new family cheerfully wrote, alongside photos of him with his human parents and his dog brother, Adikus. “He loves sleeping in the bed, playing fetch, and sniffing around the yard. And LOVES playing with his new brother and any other doggy friend he finds. He’s the perfect addition. Petey is so loved and is opening up and showing us his beautiful personality. I am so happy to have him.”
Similar to Petey, another adorable pittie puppy in an animal shelter cannot stop smiling. Layla, a 7-week-old puppy, was rescued by Beaumont Animal Care in Texas after she was spotted running across traffic by herself. She was initially fragile and terrified, but as soon as she arrived at the shelter, she completely astounded the staff. When technician Rachel Barron approached her kennel and began conversing with the small dog, she beamed with a radiant smile.
Barron told The Dodo, “When I began to speak in a baby talk kind of voice she absolutely loved it,” Barron told The Dodo. “She began wagging her tail and then boom, the famous smile. That is when I pulled out my phone to get it on video. It was too cute not to share.” According to Barron, Layla appeared to be aware that she was in good hands, and the adorable puppy won the hearts of people all over the world with her charming smile. Nicole Toney and her husband, who already owned three rescue dogs and two cats, thought Layla would be an excellent addition to their family. Little Layla quickly warmed up to the Toneys, and they were soon given permission to bring her home. Layla immediately began to play and run around with the other dogs as if she had always been there.
“Lady immediately wanted to be near Layla,” Toney said. “Lady was a mom and had just given birth when she was rescued, and so she was really drawn to Layla.” Layla appears to be drawn to the other animals as well, which is possibly due to her lack of companionship when living on the street by herself. “She’s really settling in so well,” Toney said. “She’ll cuddle right next to my husband’s face and fall asleep. She’s such a sweetheart and we noticed she even smiles when she’s asleep.”
