Josh Roberts and Katelyn Galea, an Australian couple, were ecstatic to welcome their son Archie into the world in July. Everything seemed fine at first. Like any other boy, Archie was healthy and developing every day.
However, Archie and his parents’ life abruptly turned upside down when he was just five months old. Archie grew critically ill.
It all started with a common children’s sickness. Archie certainly had an ear infection, according to the medical professionals at the clinic, but there was no need for concern. But instead of improving, Archie’s condition deteriorated.
Archie’s fingers first turned gray, then his lips. His parents jumped into their car and rushed their son to the closest hospital when they noticed that he had a rash on his chest.
They eventually arrive after a 40-minute drive that seems to last a lifetime. When Archie turned entirely gray, his parents feared it was already too late.
It turned out that Archie had a meningococcal infection, a bacterial condition that, if left untreated, can be lethal. Archie was admitted to the hospital right away and given a ventilator. He was given an antibiotic course of treatment and a blood transfusion.
Little Archie teetered on the brink of life and death for a while there.
Archie was taken off of the life support system once his condition had stabilized, and he subsequently spent a number of months in the hospital rehabilitating. Archie’s parents have created a GoFundMe campaign with the intention of raising a total of $5,000 so that they can pay for all of their son’s medical bills. The amount of response was staggering.
As of the time this article was written, the family had collected nearly three times as much as what they had sought! Archie was able to acquire the care he requires as a result of the generosity of a large number of people, even complete strangers who have never interacted with the family.
Archie’s condition has much improved, and he was discharged from the hospital earlier. Even though he has not yet reached his full recovery, he is getting better each day. There is still a long way to go until he is completely well.
Both Josh and Katelyn are overflowing with gratitude.
I am overjoyed that everything turned out successfully and that Archie will make a full recovery from his illness. What an incredible little warrior he is! If you found yourself moved by the events of this story, then please consider sharing this article.
