Nearly a month had passed before Michael Douglas, the proud grandfather, finally had the chance to meet the newest and tiniest addition to the Douglas family. In December, the renowned actor announced the birth of his son, Cameron Douglas, and his newborn son, Ryder. Following weeks of anticipation, Michael Douglas was able to meet Ryder and cradle the bundle of joy in his arms.
Upon Ryder’s arrival in December 2020, Douglas warmly greeted his son Cameron and his long-term partner Viviane Thibes, confirming on Instagram that he had become a proud grandfather. Though there was a slight delay, Douglas was finally able to hold Ryder in his arms and introduce him to his social media followers.
While Douglas dedicated his teenage years to building his career as a Hollywood heavyweight, much like his father Kirk Douglas, he has since recognized that he has become a devoted family man as he has grown older. Previously, he expressed his admiration for his first granddaughter, Lua, who is the three-year-old daughter of his son Cameron.
Douglas expressed, “I love Lua— she’s gorgeous. I suppose you cherish being a grandparent more when everyone is gone and you have empty-nest syndrome, but I still have my daughter!”
Apart from relishing his role as a grandfather, the 76-year-old actor seems to be a doting husband to Catherine Zeta-Jones and a committed father to his three children. His eldest, Cameron, who is now 42, was born during his previous marriage to Diandra Luker, while his younger children, Dylan (20) and Carys (17), were born after he began his relationship with Zeta-Jones.
During his first marriage, the star of Basic Instinct had once stated that his career was the most significant thing in his life. He is conscious that he made mistakes, and there were times when he was absent. However, now that his priorities have shifted, he typically advises people to delay having children so they can concentrate on their careers as much as possible.
The Oscar-winning actor was in his fifties when he began building a family with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is 25 years his junior. He had never envisioned becoming a parent again at that age, but once he embraced the role, he became fully committed to it.
