Mark Wahlberg, who is well-known for his toned body and a run of action films, rose from modest beginnings to become one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors.
Many people overlook the fact that this family man and movie star was once a troubled Boston adolescent who served time in prison.
By the time he was 13 years old, cocaine addiction had caused Mark Wahlberg to drop out of school and join his brother Donnie in the band “New Kids on the Block.” After that, he left the group to pursue his solo career.
But despite his substance usage and controversies, he managed to develop into the successful actor, loving spouse, and caring father we know today.
The Boston-born actor, who has been in a series of action films, is a frequent gym goer but recently disclosed that he now takes a few days off from his demanding workout schedule each week.
He does not, however, take a day off from spending time with God.
He shared: “I take two days a week off from the gym now. I don’t take a day off from getting on my hands and my knees, from reading my prayer book and my daily devotionals.”
He incorporates prayer into his daily routine and believes it has improved his relationship with his four children, Ella (16), Brendan (14), Michael (13), and Grace (10).
The 49-year-old claims that being a better husband to his woman, former Victoria’s Secret model Rhea Durham, whom he wed in 2009, is another benefit of his faith.
Mark shared: “I owe a lot to my wife. She has helped me become the man that I am and created a beautiful life for me and our children.”
“I also knew that she loved me for who I am and that she was someone I could trust. Until I met her, I wasn’t ready to have a family.”
With regard to his responsibility to his family in particular, Mark Wahlberg’s daily prayer habit keeps him on line.
“I pray for the patience.”
“I want to be an example, with my work ethic, with my commitment to my faith, with my commitment to my family.”
“I’ve been put in this position for a reason, it’s not to forget about where I came from. I have to utilize these talents and gifts that have been given to me to help others.”
