Man surprises his frail parents with beautiful basement conversion

As our parents reach the age at which they are considered elderly, we all begin to consider their living options. We want them to be safe in their own home, but if that is not possible, we must consider senior living facilities.

This is easier said than done, as most care homes for the elderly are costly, and even if we can afford them, most of us question whether or not they are receiving the proper care.

When Schon’s parents reached their golden years, he observed that they were becoming increasingly frail and began to consider alternative living arrangements for them.

Bonnie and George Miller, both 87 years old, were losing their memories, and Bonnie fell and fractured her shoulder.

Schon was so concerned about them that he knew he had to act quickly. Then he devised a solution that brought his parents to tears when they were shown their new living quarters.

Schon was concerned about his father, whose memory had begun to deteriorate, and his mother, who was in a wheelchair following a fall.

The devoted son from Bremen, Ohio did not want to place his parents in a nursing home, so he and his wife Jeannie began exploring alternative options.

“One can’t live alone without the other and we didn’t want either one to end up in a nursing home,” Schon said.

When his mother fractured her shoulder in a fall, they considered relocating to a home with a mother-in-law suite, according to Schon.

When the caring couple was unable to find anything for their elderly parents, they devised the sweetest plan.

“We decided to blow a hole in the basement wall, get rid of our fun stuff like pool table, instruments, and karaoke area and move them in so we can take care of them,” Schon explained.

The thoughtful conversion that Schon made for his parents is heartwarming.

Everyone is in tears the moment the couple first sees their new home.
