Five years ago, a heartwarming incident took place which seems like it was straight out of a romantic comedy. A woman had planned to surprise her boyfriend in England, but to her surprise, she found out that he had flown to Paris on the same day to surprise her. Twitter user @SalmaSaade celebrated the fourth anniversary of this failed plan by sharing the text exchanges with her boyfriend Finlay and the reactions that still leave a lasting impression on us. It’s a scene that couldn’t have been scripted any better.
Happy 4 year anniversary to when I flew to Edinburgh to surprise Finlay and he flew to Paris to surprise me and this is why we don’t do surprises anymore pic.twitter.com/ZBJ4jCNZ4i

Turns out we were in Edinburgh Airport at the same time going in opposite directions 😳

@SalmaSaade celebrated the fourth anniversary of a failed romantic surprise that left everyone amused. She flew to Edinburgh to surprise Finlay, but discovered he had flown to Paris on the same day to surprise her. When Salma messaged Finlay’s roommate, Adam, to check if he was at the flat, Adam informed her that Finlay had gone to Paris to surprise her as well. Salma was in shock and couldn’t believe it, but Twitter decided they were meant to be together. Finlay later revealed that they were at Edinburgh airport at the same time, going in opposite directions. The internet was in awe of their display of love and called for someone to turn it into a movie. @SalmaSaade joked that the incident put a lot of pressure on them not to break up.
After realizing he was alone in Paris, he turned to Facebook and posted: “Anyone in Paris? I flew to surprise Salma but she flew back to surprise me and now I’ve got 12 hours to kill.” His post garnered reactions from various people, with one person commenting that he and Salma are “clearly soulmates,” while another joked that their love is “killing the planet.” Some drew comparisons to similar situations in pop culture, such as one person referencing the short story “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, writing, “Just like the time my girlfriend bought a nice new chain for my pocket watch that I sold to buy a nice beret for her hair that she sold to buy me the watch chain.”
I’m sitting here watching a romcom and I see this. Yep, you guys are the real deal, minus all of the “quirky” cliches. 👏

Several users drew comparisons between the couple’s miscommunication and plotlines from popular TV shows. One user referenced an episode of “Friends,” writing, “Hilarious btw anyone else reminded of that episode of Friends where Ross flew to London to fight for Emily while she flew back to New York to tell him she loved him?” Another user mentioned an episode of “New Girl,” saying, “I thought of the ‘New Girl’ episode where Jess decides to follow Ryan to London but he decides he wants to spend the holiday with her so he flies back to Los Angeles to surprise her.”
So, all the bits we see in movies do actually happen in real ife to real people, somewhere💕

“I tell Finlay to meet me in Paris by the Trocadero. He’s been waiting for me all these years. He’s never taken another lover. I don’t care. I don’t show up. I go to Edinburgh. That’s where I stashed the chandelier.” pic.twitter.com/d023LxrPy1
