Some people are so cruel to their dogs that it’s hard to believe. Too many people have carelessly dumped their dogs by tying them up in the middle of nowhere and not caring what happens to them.
But luckily, there are also kind people who are willing to step up and help these animals, which can mean the world to a dog that has been neglected.
This happened not long ago when an officer saved a that who was tied up and being mistreated. The dog reached out to her with his paw.
Officer Angela Laurella of the Broward Sheriff’s Office was called about a dog that was left tied to a pole and was very hungry.
It’s not clear who tied the dog up or how long he was out, but he was found in terrible shape: “Emaciated. Every bone and rib protruding. His eyes sunken into his body for being so malnourished. Definitely abused” .
Amy Roman, who works with 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades, Florida, told Local 10 News that the dog had been abused.
So when Officer Laurella got there, the dog was so desperate for help that he reached out his paw to her. It was a heartbreaking sight.
“She just walked toward him very slowly and reached out her hand, and he kind of cowered and gave her his paw, as if to say, ‘Please help get me out of here,’” Roman told The Dodo.
The dog didn’t have a microchip to show who owned it, and he was on a very short leash that made it hard for him to move around.
But once Officer Laurella started gently feeding the dog, he knew he was in better hands:
A rescue group called 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades, Florida, took the dog in. They gave him the name “Liam.”
They promised to give the four-year-old, skinny dog all the love and care he needed and had been missing for a long time.
“Poor baby is so emaciated, so thirsty, so exhausted and so sweet,” they wrote on Instagram. “We can’t believe what he had to endure… we will put him back together again.”
Liam is now on the road to recovery and getting the help he needs, but his health has suffered because he was ignored for so long. Vets have been giving him care for his health.
“Both of his eyes are sunken in due to malnutrition and is causing entropion,” the rescue said in an update, after Liam underwent a minor procedure at the eye specialist. “He also has an ulcer in his left eye.”
Liam’s previous owner is still a mystery, and there are no clues as to who he belonged to before. The rescue group is still hoping that someone will come forward with information.
They wrote on Instagram, “We hope someone sees the report that knows who did this to him and maybe we can get justice for Liam,”
But for now, Liam is in good hands. He is getting better every day, and the rescue says he is “doing well.”
“He has a long road ahead, slow and steady,” they wrote in an update. “But he is eating and drinking like a champ, sleeping well, and always happy!”
