Witness the heartwarming moment when a baby boy, born with half of his leg missing, tries on a prosthetic limb for the first time. McKenzie Stanforth, who is now one year old, was diagnosed with fibula hemimelia, causing him to miss a fibula and toe in one leg, while his other leg had a shin bone that was only half the size of the other.
Cassie and Luke, McKenzie’s parents, made the challenging decision to have their son’s leg amputated below the knee shortly after his birth.
McKenzie’s parents recently shared a video of him trying on his new prosthetic leg for the first time. In the video, Luke can be seen fitting the prosthetic limb onto McKenzie’s leg, and soon after, the little boy stands up and breaks into a fit of giggles.

After being helped to stand up using a nearby coffee table for support, McKenzie’s first steps on his new prosthetic leg lead him towards his three-year-old cousin, who playfully kicks him before they both giggle.
Cassie, McKenzie’s mother from Melbourne, shared the heartwarming moment on internet, describing it as a beautiful moment she will never forget. Many viewers commented on the post, expressing their delight and finding the video to be adorable.

One person commented, “This is the cutest thing ever, and how proud that little boy is to show off his prosthetic.”
Another added, “Naw what a little soldier, the smile on his face the whole time dad’s putting his prosthetic on.”
A third viewer wrote, “Omg that’s so gorgeous he’s so happy to show off to everyone that’s he’s just like them…Wonderful.”
Finally, someone commented, “So innocent that giggle at the end melts my heart.”

Cassie, who spoke to the Australian, had previously revealed the difficult decision they had to make regarding McKenzie’s leg. They were faced with two options, amputation or lengthening, which could be a painful process.
According to Cassie, the lengthening procedure would have caused pain for McKenzie throughout his childhood until he stopped growing at the age of 16. In the end, they decided to go ahead with the amputation, which was the best option for their son.
