Recently, Laytonsville-based Ruppert Landscape announced that all staff with over one year of employment with the company would receive bonuses totaling $28 million. This is the way that the company, which has been operating for about 50 years, acknowledge the value of their people.
Excluding those in top leadership positions, 1,200 staff members got bonuses ranging from $7,000 to well over $200,000.
The company awarded the bonuses as a way of saying “thank you” to each employee for their remarkable effort and commitment, which has fueled the expansion of the business. Salary and service years were used to determine bonus amounts.
“Everyone receiving this bonus was instrumental in helping create the value that we’ve been able to realize,” said CEO Craig Ruppert.

Ruppert Landscape said it was able to give out the incentives thanks to a recent partnership with an investment firm.
This surprise announcement was made at a branch gathering held earlier this month. The staff members believed they were only there for a meeting to learn more about the partnership. They had no idea that a sizable check was waiting for them.
Everyone was thrilled when they opened the envelops containing the checks inside.
“It’s just so exciting. Looking around the room and you know and seeing the faces, especially when they were opening the checks. It was a pretty good feeling…”, one employee exclaimed.
