Elmer Alvarez, a homeless man in New Haven, Connecticut, discovered a $10,000 check while wandering the streets. Despite the potential to use the money to improve his circumstances, Alvarez decided to return it to the Realtor who had misplaced it.
Roberta Hoskie, the Realtor who lost the $10,000 check, was deeply impressed by Elmer Alvarez’s honesty. As a result, she decided to provide him with a home and scheduled a job interview for him with one of her associates.
Roberta Hoskie didn’t stop there. She went a step further and offered Elmer a free education at her real estate school to set him up for long-term success.
Acknowledging her own experience of homelessness, Dr. Hoskie expressed her empathy towards Mr. Alvarez’s struggle and offered him a free place at her real estate school, with the condition that he helps another homeless person once he is back on his feet.
In a heartwarming gesture, Dr. Hoskie publicly recognized Mr. Alvarez’s honesty and met him at the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, where she broadcasted her good deed through Facebook Live.
According to Fox News 61, Dr. Hoskie stated that the homeless man, Elmer Alvarez, had no idea about the positive changes that were about to happen in his life.
“You don’t have to worry about being in the cold,” she assured him, “We have housing for you.” Elmer became emotional and said, “Thank God!”
