The 35-year-old man had spent the majority of his life “running from God.” For 15 years, he was an atheist before becoming a Satanist for five years.
Carl’s existence apart from God was, as one might expect, unpleasant. He got caught up in a ”vicious cycle of drugs and drink.” He was dealing with a lot of rage.
That, however, is the Gospel’s beauty. God never gives up on us, no matter how many times we try. He loves us in both our good and bad times. Jesus never stops trying to win our hearts.
Carl was invited to the service by Rich Walters, pastor of Cross Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Carl shot him right then and there.
