Gwen Stefani shows teen son years after she was mocked for picking ‘really strange’ & ‘weird’ name for the boy

Gwen Stefani, widely recognized for her exceptional vocal abilities, has been candid about her experiences as a mother. While she strives to maintain her three boys’ privacy, the singer has, on special occasions, shared glimpses of their lives through photographs. The latest spotlight fell on her middle son, Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale.

In celebration of Zuma’s 15th birthday, Stefani crafted a post to honor him. She artfully compiled a video montage, featuring a collection of photographs capturing Zuma’s growth over the years. The Instagram Reel was beautifully underscored by Zach Bryan’s “Something in the Orange.” Throughout the montage, Zuma’s radiant smiles and poses alongside his proud mother were prominently featured.

The video commenced with an image of a youthful Zuma, his smile radiating joy. Stefani overlaid the frame with striking, vibrant blue letters exclaiming, “Happy Birthday Zuma!!” Accompanying the visual, she captioned the post with words of affection, “happy 15th birthday Zuma !!! we love u more than anything.”

Why Did Gwen Stefani Be Criticized for Her Son’s Name?

In 2008, Stefani welcomed Zuma into the world, a son she shares with her former husband, Gavin Rossdale, alongside their two other brothers. Dave Tomberlin, acting as their publicist, conveyed the wonderful news of the baby’s health and the family’s happiness on his arrival. While a considerable number of fans celebrated the safe arrival of Stefani’s second son, a debate surrounding the boy’s name swiftly emerged. Some fans found the name to be “unconventional” and expressed opinions that it was “unusual.”

An article in the Kentucky New Era speculated that the young boy might consider changing his name as he grows older. Meanwhile, on Twitter, a multitude of users openly expressed their bewilderment at the distinctive name choice. One user posted, “Gwen Stefani why would you curse you child and name them zuma, I haven’t gotten over that, still traumatized.” Another Twitter user echoed this sentiment:

“Who on earth would wanna name their child Zuma Nesta Rock? Gwen Stefani. And she really did.”

In sheer amazement, another fan exclaimed, “The only uncool thing about Gwen Stefani is that her kid’s name is Zuma, LOL whyyyyyy man!?” One fan humorously speculated that Stefani “hates her new kid,” while another surmised that she might be “setting a kid up for failure.” Throughout the years, curious individuals have attempted to decipher the meaning behind Zuma’s distinct and intriguing name.

Why Did Gwen Stefani Name Her Son Zuma?

Stefani’s selection of the name garnered a substantial amount of attention. As expected, speculation ensued regarding the significance underlying her son’s unique name. People naturally began seeking hints from the singer’s personal life, delving into aspects predating her and her rock star spouse’s widespread fame, all in an attempt to unravel the mystery behind the choice.

Linda Rosenkrantz, one of the co-authors of “The Baby Name Bible: The Ultimate Guide By America’s Baby-Naming Experts,” offered her speculation on the name “Zuma.” She posited that it could potentially pay homage to Zuma Beach in Malibu, California — a location that Gavin Rossdale had mentioned multiple times in the past.

On a different note, “Nesta” appears to be a probable allusion to Bob Marley, who was also known by the name Nesta. This supposition seems reasonable, given that Stefani and Rossdale’s eldest son’s name, Kingston, is similarly rooted in reggae music. As for Zuma’s second middle name, “Rock,” it’s commonly assumed to potentially reference Stefani’s band No Doubt’s third album, “Rock Steady.”
