The bond shared between a father and his child is truly remarkable, especially in the case of a daughter and her dad.
The majority of fathers would go to any extent to safeguard and provide for their children.
However, in this instance, it was the child who rose to the occasion to care for their father.
The family under discussion is the Ivanowski family consisting of father John and daughter Delayne. John had received a diagnosis of immunoglobulin A deficiency, resulting in his immune system attacking his kidneys.
As a consequence, John had to undergo dialysis every few days, leading to frequent hospital visits.
Delayne couldn’t bear to witness her father’s struggle and made a bold move to find out if she could be a potential kidney donor for him. However, John initially disapproved of the idea, saying “You’re too young, you’ve got a lot of time to be here and my time is limited.”
However, Delayne was not content with his response and began devising a plan without his knowledge.
Delayne reached out to her father’s hospital coordinator and inquired about the process for donating her kidney to him.
The coordinator informed her that once John was deemed fit for the transplant, they could begin conducting medical tests on her to determine if she was a viable donor.
Throughout the entire procedure, John remained oblivious to the fact that it was taking place.
When John eventually found out about Delayne’s plan, he remarked, “I knew you were up to something,” to which Delayne responded with a smile, “Well, I’m always up to something.”
It was only after the completion of the transplant surgery that John learned the origin of his new kidney.
After the operation, while John was resting in his room, Delayne walked in dressed in a hospital gown and pushing her IV trolley.
The moment John set his eyes on his daughter and comprehended her selfless act, he was overwhelmed with emotion, and tears have been streaming down his face ever since.
The duo embraced in a heartfelt hug and were now prepared to continue their lives in each other’s company.
Nevertheless, there were still outstanding hospital bills that required payment, and with months of dialysis, the family’s finances were running low.
However, Delayne came up with an ingenious plan. She shared her and her father’s story on her TikTok page and requested that if 6,000 individuals contributed just $1 each, they could settle their medical expenses.
The video quickly went viral, and numerous people contributed, often exceeding the requested $1.
The additional funds have been used to pay off their other medical debts and assist the family until John is able to resume work.
At the moment, with the weight of medical expenses removed, the duo can recover from their surgeries without any financial worries.
When asked if he was pleased with Delayne’s decision to donate her kidney without his knowledge, John beamed with joy and expressed his profound gratitude, while another tear escaped his eye.
“Not to be hooked up to the machine anymore and to be able to do what I need to do, or what I want to do, it’s just a big relief.”
Delayne believes that if you have the ability to donate a kidney to someone you cherish, you should do so since it essentially grants them a second chance at life.
