He’s not just a loyal companion to one person—he’s an entire town’s beloved friend.
Mellow, the dog who had been faithfully strolling the streets of Dupont, Pennsylvania, alongside his owner Kevin Curry twice a day since September 2019, recently received a devastating diagnosis of fast-spreading lymphoma. To bid a heartfelt farewell before Mellow heads to “doggie heaven,” Curry took him on one last lap on Saturday.
Describing the scene, KJ Warunek, a resident of the area, shared with The Post, “It is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story. There were at least 25 people [on the first block]. When I looked to the next block, there was another 20. I’m going to say that was how the whole walk went.”

Curry had distributed a heart-wrenching flyer to neighbors, informing them about Mellow’s farewell trot. The terminal cancer had caused Mellow to slow down, making the daily journey challenging for him.
Friends of Mellow gathered to bid him goodbye, showering the cherished canine with pats and affection, as captured in photos shared on Twitter by WeRateDogs. Meanwhile, Curry had penned a poignant note on Mellow’s behalf, which Warunek posted on a local Facebook page.

“Regardless of how well we know each other, you have made my life so much richer than any rescue dog could have hoped for,” Mellow’s note expressed, tugging at the heartstrings. “I am so grateful to have such caring neighbors and live in a community that looks out for one another so well. I’m not sure when exactly I will go, but each day over the past few weeks has been a struggle for me to get around the neighborhood like I used to.”

The note went on to invite neighbors to say their goodbyes, offering an opportunity to pat Mellow’s head or rub his belly. It even included a map of the route and $5 to purchase a gift for a dog or donate to charity.
Warunek shared that Mellow’s farewell event was filled with a mixture of solemnity and moments of joy. People showered the pup with affection and treats, while some shed tears from a distance to avoid upsetting Kevin.

“Mellow knew he was the belle of the ball—he pranced around,” Warunek recalled.
The neighborhood rallied together to give Mellow and his owner the most heartwarming send-off they could have hoped for. Even the local shop, Choo Choo’s, treated Mellow to free ice cream.

Despite his illness, Mellow lived his best life with Curry, according to Warunek. She remarked, “[Mellow] only has a few more days on Earth, but his dad gave him the best life when he adopted him. And you can clearly see he was man’s best friend.”
