According to the saying, it’s often the little things that count when it comes to making a difference in your community. At Unity Grove Elementary school, custodian Chris Jackson exemplifies this idea.
He’s known for his positive attitude and willingness to help anyone in need, but behind his cheerful demeanor, Jackson has faced personal struggles, including transportation issues due to financial difficulties.

Despite these challenges, Jackson has continued to show up to work each day and give his all, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and students alike. “There has never been a day where he has not come in with a smile on his face,” says special education teacher Jodi Combs. “The kids here adore him. They love Mr. Chris. And he just works so hard.”

When the school community learned about Jackson’s difficulties, they were eager to lend a hand. Although they knew they couldn’t solve all of his problems, they recognized that a car would make a big difference in his life. So they rallied together to raise funds for a vehicle, with Jackson contributing what he could towards the purchase.

In a heartwarming video posted on Facebook, Jackson is seen walking with a teacher through the school parking lot. Suddenly, she stops in front of a Chevrolet Impala, which Jackson had previously described as his dream car, and hands him the keys

Overwhelmed with emotion, Jackson struggles to find the words to express his gratitude. “If y’all was in my body right now, I can’t move!” he exclaims. “I’m stuck. I’m really stuck.”
This touching story illustrates the power of community and the importance of supporting one another in times of need.

As Jackson himself notes, “It goes to show that although we each deal with our own struggles – there’s a lot that can be overcome when people stick together.”
