Dog gets adopted after 477 days in shelter

All dogs want to be adopted, but some take longer. Some shelter dogs wait months or years for a family, watching other dogs get adopted.

Thankfully, one sweet dog was adopted after over 450 days in the shelter.

Alexander spent 15 months at Wags and Walks in Los Angeles. He was rescued from a crowded shelter, KABC reported.

Alexander is about 3. A “gentle giant” at 80 pounds, According to a Facebook post, the shelter thinks he has “some dane” in him. His paperwork calls him a shepherd/doberman mix.

Alexander is a happy, wagging dog who has “never met a person [he] didn’t love,” according to Wags and Walks. He was “very affection driven” and learning leash skills.

No one wanted to adopt Alexander. Alexander was never chosen, but KABC reported that over 800 dogs found homes during his shelter.

“Seeing wonderful Alexander sitting and waiting for that amount of time through no fault of their own has been really hard and heartbreaking for all of us here at Wags,” Wags and Walks development manager Chloe Esperiquette told the outlet.

Alexander’s wait is over. Alexander was adopted after 477 days by Wags and Walks on January 27!

“We’re so excited to share that thanks to this community and your support, after 477 days patiently waiting for a home, our sweet boy has headed to an adoption trial with an incredible family!” they wrote.
