Recently released body camera footage captures the harrowing rescue of a woman who endured two days of captivity, chained to the floor of a decrepit Kentucky home.
Responding to distressed cries for help, Louisville Metro police officers took swift action last Wednesday night. Despite encountering barriers like barricaded doors and windows, the officers pressed on, ultimately finding the woman who had managed to break through a second-floor window to escape her captor.
Amidst the crowd’s urgency, a neighbor offered a ladder, enabling one officer to ascend into the dilapidated dwelling where the sobbing woman was restrained by a chain. After reaching her, the officer skillfully removed the chain from her neck and offered comfort.
The woman’s ordeal was particularly horrific, as the chain was secured by a MasterLock and bolted to the floor with screws. In the video, the woman expresses remorse to the officer and explains that the captor held the key on his keychain.
The officers, armed with a hatchet found amidst the chaos, liberated the woman by breaking the chain and guiding her outside, where she received medical attention from EMS personnel. Despite her release, the woman continued to tremble and weep as firefighters gently removed the locked chain from her neck.
Subsequent to the rescue, 36-year-old Moises May was apprehended by the LMPD. The arrest followed an alarming sequence of events that unfolded in the aftermath of a physical altercation.
May, who shared a child with the victim, reportedly confined her in the house, assaulted her, and subjected her to a traumatic ordeal that involved cutting off a significant portion of her hair with a machete.
After a night away, the woman returned to collect her belongings, only to be forcibly locked in a room by May, who had menacingly threatened her life.
May now faces a series of serious charges, including kidnapping, intimidating a participant in the legal process, wanton endangerment, assault, terroristic threatening, and harassment.
