Mikala Vish of Michigan has demonstrated that mothers will do anything for their children, even putting their own lives in danger. Vish, a mother of four, suffered severe burns while rescuing her children, ages 4, 6, 9 months, and 12, from a fire that broke out in their home at around 1 a.m. on October 26.

During the rescue, Vish suffered second- and third-degree burns on 60 percent of her body, while her 6-year-old son, Torin, sustained burns to his hands and arms. Vish and Torin underwent skin graft surgeries and are now on the road to recovery.

Despite the harrowing experience, Vish’s family and the firefighters who responded to the incident lauded her as a hero. Chelsea Area Fire Authority Capt. Scott Basar described Vish as “an absolute hero for how she saved all her children.” Lt.
Derek Klink of the Dexter Fire Department called Vish’s actions “the most heroic thing” he had ever seen and said that she deserved all the credit.

Vish’s mother, Susan Sutton, also expressed her pride in her daughter, saying that Vish had always been a “spitfire” and a woman of great faith and prayer. She added that Vish’s strength and determination would help her recover from her injuries.

A GoFundMe page set up for the family has raised over $270,000 as of November 19, surpassing its goal of $275,000. The funds will go towards supporting Vish’s children, who are being taken care of by her family during her hospital stay.
The Chelsea Area Fire Authority has also organized a clothing drive for Vish’s children.

Despite the challenges ahead, Vish and Torin have shown incredible progress in their recovery, according to updates shared on the fundraiser page.
