Couple married for 67 years, and their final moments together are heartbreaking

It is said that love that is genuine can never end. Every one of us harbors the hope that one day we would discover such love in our life; that we will meet our soulmate.

Some people spend their entire lives waiting for their soul mate, while others have the good fortune to meet the person who instantly fills the void in their existence almost immediately.

This was the case for Floyd and Violet Hartwig.

They tied the knot in 1947, and have continued to delight in one another’s company for an astounding 67 years now. That in and of itself is incredible, but it is the final moments of their lives that really tell volumes about the epic bond that they shared.

After learning about their story, which was featured in the media in 2018, I became more convinced than I had previously been that not only does genuine love exist, but also that there is someone who we are destined to spend the rest of our lives on earth with.

In elementary school, Floyd and Violet Hartwig became friends and eventually began a love affair that would last throughout their entire lives. When World War II broke out, Floyd enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country. During that time, the couple communicated with one other through the exchange of hundreds of letters.

Here is a portion of one of those letters, dated May 1947, which reads as follows:

Floyd came back to the United States at the end of World War II, and soon after, he and his wife bought a farm in California. They continued their relationship and went on to have 3 kids together.

Unfortunately, Violet was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago. Floyd took care of her in the couple’s house, but once Floyd was diagnosed with kidney disease, the situation took a turn for the worse. B ut at the same time, Floyd and Violet’s relationship became even closer as a result of this shocking news. They had been married for more than 67 years when they finally fell asleep each other’s arms for the final time.

Floyd, who was 90 years old when he passed away in the hospital, had Violet, who was 89 years old at the time, holding his hand. Violet died within a few hour after he had left this world, following in his footsteps.

The couple was encircled by their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren for the gathering. The family that they had left behind was obviously devastated to lose both of them in such a short period of time, but they were able to find some solace in the fact that this was what Floyd and Violet had wanted all along. It would seem that they had even told their children that they wished to pass away at home while all of them were together.
