College junior fatally shot while trying to enter wrong home in middle of night

Tragically, a college student lost his life when he inadvertently tried to enter the incorrect residence. The incident revolved around Nick Donofrio, a junior enrolled at the University of South Carolina. On Saturday, August 26th, around 2 a.m., Donofrio, a 20-year-old from Connecticut, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his upper body. He had a connection to a fraternity house situated on the same street as the property he was attempting to enter.

Initially, law enforcement was alerted to reports of a burglary and had started their journey to the specified location. Subsequent updates to the call revealed that gunshots had been discharged. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of the young man, later identified as Nick Donofrio, situated on the porch.

Nick Donofrio was pursuing a major in Kinesiology and Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina, having transferred from the University of New England. In an interview with News8, his parents, Dina and Louis Donofrio, conveyed their heartbreak over losing their “loving” and “compassionate” son. The University of South Carolina also issued a statement expressing their astonishment and pledging support for the students affected by the tragedy.

As the investigation into the incident is still in progress, no information regarding the shooter’s identity has been provided by the police.
