The cherished Wallingford Sign, situated outside a Chevron gas station, gained substantial online popularity after capturing attention a few years back. According to information provided on its website, the gas station underwent a transformation in October of 2005, shifting from an auto repair shop to an ExtraMile convenience store. This change brought about an unexpected challenge. The task of devising practical messages for the sign, which once encompassed service promotions and store specials, had always been straightforward. However, the transition to ExtraMile altered the landscape, eliminating the need for car repairs and resulting in a profusion of store specials being displayed. Consequently, a decision was made to adopt a different approach.
Furthermore, the gas station’s manager elaborated on this approach in a video profile of the establishment. Using the sign to post jokes and punny observations is “a great way for the community to connect with us.”
