As a result of his transformative and dramatic performance in “The Whale,” actor Brendan Fraser is garnering praise and award nominations, and he may be on the verge of making the most successful career comeback ever.” However, OG Fraser fans have been aware of his remarkable talent ever since the 1990s, when he embodied the quintessential charming, dashing, and slightly goofball Hollywood action lead. These fans watch “Deadpool” solely to hear Fraser’s voice and proudly pronounce his last name as “Fray-zure,” as this is the correct pronunciation.
Let us not forget his role as Rick O’Connell in the “Mummy” franchise, which is arguably his most famous and well-liked character from the 1990s. What’s not to like about him, with his witty one-liners, his ability to go on dangerous adventures à la Indiana Jones, and his fabulous hair?
Moviegoers in London were treated to the ultimate surprise when Brendan Fraser himself walked into the theatre dressed in full Rick O’Connell garb during a double feature screening of “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns.” The jacket was made of brown leather. That neck wrap. Everything.
He addressed the audience and stated, “I am proud to stand before you tonight,” he told the audience. “This is a film that was made in Britain. You should know that! Even the second one, too. Be proud. Thank you for being here.”
He went on to say, “We didn’t know if it was a drama or a comedy or a straight-ahead action or romance, a horror picture, more action, all of the above. No idea until it tested in front of British audiences. Thank you for that.”
The next question that Fraser posed to the audience was, “Has anyone actually seen the movie yet?” He then exclaimed, “Outstanding!” when someone in the audience raised their hand. After that, he quickly encouraged people to go see “The Whale” before whisking himself away, saying, “I won’t take up any more of your time.”
Uh, yeah…
Spending any amount of time with Brendan Fraser is not, in my opinion, a waste of time. Do you?
Fans of “The Mummy” have yet to learn whether or not a new Rick O’Connell story will ever be adapted for the big screen; only time will tell. In the meantime, we will continue to watch this video over and over again.
