Boy chooses school security officer for “Dress as Your Favorite Person Day” to honor his protective role

It is common for individuals to have role models, whether they are actual people or imaginary figures.

It’s possible that you may have admired a fictional character, a superhero, or an everyday person who greatly impressed you due to their profession.

The school protector

Jefferey Cross, the security officer at Easton Blocker’s school, was the person whom the young boy looked up to.

Even as a kindergartner, Easton greatly admired Officer Cross for his role in protecting them at school.

This admiration was evident to the entire school during the “Dress As Your Favorite Person Day” event in 2020.

On that specific day, Easton arrived wearing a costume resembling that of a school security officer.

Donning a yellow shirt

He made an effort to replicate Officer Cross’ uniform precisely, down to the yellow shirt, black pants, and black shoes.

As a result, the young school security officer was pleased to convey to both Officer Cross and the entire school that he considered him to be his favorite person.

An inspiration to others

His mom, Lauryn, told Good Morning America, “He’s infatuated with Officer Cross. He will tell you, ‘That’s my best friend!’”

Easton’s mother observed and recognized the depth of her son’s admiration for Officer Cross.

In order to assist her son for the upcoming event, she went above and beyond by purchasing her son’s costume.

She went as far as using vinyl letters to inscribe “Junior Security” onto the back of the yellow shirt.

“For someone who my son looks up to so much I’m going to say, ‘Hey, this is how much he adores you,’” Lauryn added.

Officer Cross was deeply touched.

Being a parent himself with a child of his own, the discovery of all this was incredibly startling for him.

Showing the security officer love

“Most of the scholars are expected to dress as their teachers or fellow classmates. Easton, ever since the first day of school, he comes up and hugs me. He’s adorable. He has a very fun, high-spirited personality,” he told GMA.

It is undeniable that a child’s innocence is one of the most genuine forms of kindness we can witness in this harsh world.

Rather than idolizing superhuman abilities frequently depicted on television and in movies, Easton’s admiration is centered on Officer Cross’ ability to keep them safe while at school.

It made him love his job even more.

A new appreciation for what he does

Upon realizing that his role had such a profound impact on a young boy like Easton, Officer Cross expressed to THV11, “It makes me value my job even more.”

It’s understandable to feel this way, as witnessing the influence one’s profession has on another person, particularly a child, can undoubtedly increase one’s appreciation for their work.

Undoubtedly, this remarkable experience will serve as a source of motivation for Officer Cross to persevere and strive even harder whenever he feels tired.

A touching sight

The heartwarming moment was also posted on the official Facebook account of the Jacksonville North Pulaski School District.

The caption read, “Check this out! 💛🖤. Today is “Dress As Your Favorite Person Day” at Lester Elementary. Kindergarten scholar Easton dressed as Officer Cross, his favorite school security officer. 🖤💛
