Big brother accompanies sister to the father-daughter school dance after her father failed to show

It is always painful when someone we care about disappoints us.

Obviously, this pain is amplified when we are children and our parents disappoint us. As children, we frequently lack a complete understanding of the situation, and this inevitable sense of confusion only compounds our disappointment.

Moreover, the pain associated with being betrayed by a person you believed would always be there for you lasts for years. In some cases, it can remain buried for an individual’s entire life.

Skylar, age 7, begged her father to take her to the annual daddy-daughter dance at her school. The previous year, he had failed to appear, leaving Skylar disappointed and unsure of why she would be unable to attend while all of her friends could.

Unfortunately, he pulled the same stunt again, abandoning his daughter at a highly anticipated event.

Skylar’s mother, Trelyssa Hamerter, stated to TODAY,  “This year she comes to me ahead of time and says, ‘Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance.

Skylar’s mother, Trelyssa Hamerter, stated to TODAY, “This year she comes to me ahead of time and says, ‘Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance. I don’t want grandpa. I want my dad. I want everyone to know I have a dad.’”

Knowing how much it meant to her daughter, Trelysia reached out to her ex and asked him to attend the daddy-daughter dance with Skylar.

In the days leading up to the event, however, there were warning signs. Skylar’s father refused to answer the phone. A day before the dance, Skylar had begun to accept that she was once again doomed to disappointment.

On Facebook, Trelysia expressed her own anger regarding the situation.
“I felt so bad because there was nothing I could do. I’m not a male, obviously,” she wrote.

Fortunately, Christian, Skylar’s older brother, was a more dependable male in the family.

According to Love What Matters, the young boy realized he had no choice but to act when he saw his sister crying.

Trelysia disclosed that Christian said, “If he doesn’t show, Mom, I’d like to take Skylar to the dance… she deserves to know that a man can keep his word and that she’s really special.”

Trelysia hurriedly purchased a suit for Christian to match his sister’s dress.

Trelysia wrote on Facebook: “This is the second year that my daughter’s father stood her up for the daddy-daughter dance,” Trelysia wrote on Facebook. “She cried because she had her heart set on going. Then her big brother stepped in and said he’d take her… y’all, I literally cried.”

The proud mom added: “Just know that I’m raising someone a GREAT HUSBAND one day.”

Christian and Skylar therefore attended the father-daughter dance together, and Trelysia informed her audience that the children had a wonderful time.
