The girl corrected false information that her babysitter had provided to police officers at the scene, helping to ensure the safety of her neighbor and the capture of the actual suspects. Additionally, the girl’s testimony helped in the retrieval of all the items that the thieves had stolen from her and her family during the invasion.
During 2014, Abby was left alone at home with her babysitter when two men broke into the house. Reflecting on the incident, Abby recounted:
“Wednesday was the worst day in my life.”
The girl affirmed that the intruders had instructed her and her babysitter to leave the house because they intended to steal their possessions. According to her, “The bad guys stole my kitty bank; they stole my iPod.”
What Was the Babysitter’s Account of the Incident?
Abby reported that the intruders had commanded her and her babysitter to exit the house, a claim that the babysitter substantiated. Nonetheless, the two did not concur on the physical characteristics of the invaders.
According to Abby’s babysitter, the home invaders were two black men who were carrying firearms. She added that the suspects resembled their next-door neighbor, Cody Oaks.

The investigation uncovered that Abby’s 17-year-old babysitter, together with her 16-year-old boyfriend and another white male, had fabricated a false home invasion. The babysitter had then concocted a tale about two armed black men perpetrating the robbery.
Abby’s mother was baffled as to why her babysitter would implicate her kids in such a scheme but was proud of her daughter’s truthfulness. She exclaimed:
“Literally in 30 seconds, she changed everything that had been going on for five, six hours.”
Abby’s neighbor, who had been suspected of the burglary based on the babysitter’s account, was likewise appreciative of Abby’s honesty. However, he was dismayed that the babysitter had falsely accused him of a crime he had not committed.
Oaks acknowledged that he did not believe the babysitter fully comprehended the grave predicament she had placed him in. He recounted that his household had been traumatized by the unfounded charges, which had even led to a sniper lurking in a tree outside his home.
