Becoming a parent is a life-changing experience that fills our hearts with an indescribable love. The moment we lay eyes on our child, we realize that everything has changed, and our priorities shift in an instant. For many, becoming a parent is the happiest day of their life, and this sentiment is shared across the world.
Sadly, not all parents share this love and commitment to their children. Some have the capacity to abandon or mistreat their own flesh and blood. This was the reality for one family in Paraguay, whose story involves a woman named Doña Ignacia, who celebrated her 90th birthday year in 2021.
When she was younger, she delivered a baby boy named Pablo Acuña. However, she soon realized that he wasn’t growing normally. Ignacia observed that her son wasn’t developing much at a young age. Eventually, she and her husband decided to take him to the hospital to find out what was wrong and if there was anything they could do to help.
According to Ignacia, her son stayed in the hospital for two or three months, but when he returned home with his father, he was just as he was when he left.
Sadly, Pablo was born with a birth defect that hindered the growth of his limbs, resulting in him being born without arms and legs.
Despite his condition, his mother remained by his side and provided him with the necessary care like any other child. As Pablo grew, he required the use of a wheelchair. However, his mother never stopped reassuring him that he was special and deserved to live a fulfilling life like everyone else.
Pablo’s compassion may have equipped him with the right mindset to make a significant impact when he became a father. Despite facing evident challenges and difficulties, he managed to raise his two daughters with dignity and kindness. However, when they were still young, their mother abandoned them, leaving Pablo to shoulder the responsibility alone.
Now in their 20s, one of Pablo’s daughters, Elida, has expressed fondness for her father, who was able to provide them with a nurturing upbringing despite the odds stacked against him.
She mentioned that despite not receiving a formal education, he possesses intelligence and wit. She also observed that regardless of the obstacles he has faced in life, he always maintains a positive and cheerful attitude.
According to her, her father is her everything – her friend and the best dad in the world. She relocated from Argentina to care for him since her grandmother is now elderly and unable to fulfill that role.
