Nobody ever forgets the day they became a parent. It is a life-changing experience that reminds you of everything that binds you to this planet. People can become parents at any age, whether they are teenagers or in their forties; there are no hard and fast laws.
But there will always be outliers. And one of them is Dr. Alberto Cormillot. The Argentine doctor is already a famous in his own country, but by fathering a kid at the age of 83, he has become a legend all over the world!
Dr. Cormillot was born on August 31, 1938, in Buenos Aires. He is a well-known public health figure in Argentina, having helped thousands of people over the course of his career. The doctor’s obesity treatment institutes, educational initiatives, and media messages made dietary information more accessible and understandable.
The doctor’s personal life was thrust into the spotlight in 2019 when he publicly announced his marriage to Estefana Pasquini, who is 48 years his junior.
Emilio, the couple’s first child, was born in 2021. When Estefana gave birth, many people raised their eyebrows, wondering how long the doctor would be involved in his newborn son’s life.
The pair, on the other hand, remained unaffected by the criticism. “Everything people have talked about this week, we already talked about 3 months ago […]. I didn’t ask myself the question (about age), I’m asking it now, since people have started to mention it.”
Estefana, on the other hand, is no stranger to the prospect of having to raise her child on her own in the future. She explained that she had discussed the problem with her friends, who told her,“‘Yes, it’s going to happen, you’re going to have a child and tomorrow he won’t be there, for logical reasons of life […]. And when he is no longer there, we will all be there to take you forward’.”
Emilio, the couple’s kid, is extensively involved in his upbringing. They have agreed to refrain from giving Emilio any sugar or salt for the first two years of his life.
Dr. Cormillot is not a first-time father. He has two elder children, Reneé and, subsequently, Adrián. His son Emilio, on the other hand, arrives fifty years after his previous child.
While the doctor has been a father before, the latest technologies and parenting updates have made him feel like a first-time father.
“I don’t remember much of what the experience is anymore. Yesterday we went to look for strollers, so we did a course on strollers. These didn’t even exist back then, they used to be much more primitive,” he continued, Before there were cloth diapers that were washed and changed, and today it is totally different.”
And, when asked how his elder children reacted to the news of another much younger brother, the doctor stated they reacted exactly as he expected. “My son said that he will have someone to play catch with, and having a brother is something he will like. And Reneé, as a female child, is ambivalent. On the one hand, she’s happy and on the other hand, it’s hard for her,” he said.
Dr. Cormillot is certainly enjoying fatherhood as much as the first time.
He stated that everyone is biased towards elderly people having children. “A single-parent family can have a child, but not an elderly person. It is not a very wise thing to do. A senior citizen is an overload, they are disposable, disposable, not even recyclable, and many people buy that. And I don’t buy it and I didn’t buy it.”
Despite his age, the doctor clearly lives what he preaches because he is still highly active. Dr. Cormillot continues to do tap and aerial dances. He mentioned that some medical tests he’s had reveal the wear and strain he’s put on his body over the years, but he doesn’t let that stop him from living his life to the fullest and being as active as he can be!
In terms of his relationship with his youngest, the doctor stated that he hopes to live until he is 105 so that he can see his child graduate. He went on to say that while he will not be a young guy of 30 when graduation rolls around, he will still be there.
Dr. Cormillot also shared a touching gift he has planned for Emilio when he is older. The doctor stated that he bought his son a phone with a number and sends messages, images, and recorded stories to the number for his son to enjoy when he is older.
