A 59-year-old mother has become the oldest woman to give birth to twins in the United States, according to a report from Mary Sue. Lauren Cohen, a mother of two from Paramus, New Jersey, had a boy and a girl in 2006 with her husband Frank Garcia, who is 20 years her junior.
Although the couple were devastated by four failed rounds of IVF, a doctor in New Jersey offered to help them, and they became pregnant using donor eggs. Lauren gave birth to the twins, Gregory and Giselle, via IVF at the age of 60.
She shares three children with her husband and has made it her aim to remain as healthy as possible, with a view to seeing her children attend college. However, being an older mother has not been without its difficulties, as Lauren’s oldest daughter, Renee, was reportedly “disgusted” by her decision to have more children.
Despite this, Lauren and her husband remain grateful for their family. As she explained, “She adds she does everything to live as long as she can. She decided to see them through college. She has to keep going for another 17 years – until she is 81.”
