“January 14, 1909 marked a significant day in history – the impending inauguration of William Taft as the 27th President of the United States, and the realization of Orville and Wilbur Wright’s pioneering flight. It was a world without World War I, which was still five years away. On that day, Nina Willis was born – a momentous event that would set her on a path to becoming a centenarian.
Fast forward to January 14, 2023, and Nina has reached the grand old age of 114, surrounded by her devoted family. Her only remaining sibling, 97-year-old Pecola, is her full-time caregiver.

Born in the Atlanta, Georgia area, the sisters have spent their entire lives there, and although they come from a large family of 20 siblings, they are the only two still living. Their bond is unbreakable, and Pecola has made a vow to be by her sister’s side for as long as she is needed.
“Nina is my pride and joy, and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for her,” Pecola stated. “I intend to take care of her, if she doesn’t outlive me.”

The sisters lead a peaceful life, with visits from their family punctuating their days. Their home is adorned with photographs of all the loved ones they have encountered over their long lives.
They are also loyal supporters of the Atlanta Braves and proudly display mementos and keepsakes they have received from the team over the years. It’s no surprise that the Braves sent Nina a handwritten card to celebrate her milestone birthday.

Living to be a centenarian is a remarkable feat in itself, but to reach the age of 114 is truly extraordinary. Clearly, Pecola is taking exceptional care of her beloved sister!”
